Venerable Lama Mingma Sherpa
Venerable Lama Mingma Sherpa brings to The Mana College a lifetime devoted to wisdom, compassion, and the disciplined practice of ethical leadership. Ordained as a Buddhist monk in the Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism at the age of eight, he has spent decades immersed in one of the world's oldest contemplative traditions. His monastic formation includes receiving Upasaka, Bodhisattva, and Vajrayana ordinations, as well as completing the traditional three-year retreat under the guidance of Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche—one of the highest forms of advanced spiritual training in the Tibetan Buddhist lineage. His lifelong commitment to study, practice, and service reflects a deep dedication to cultivating wisdom that benefits both individuals and society.
In 2010, at the request of Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche, Lama Mingma relocated to the United States to serve as Resident Lama at Kagyu Shenpen Kunchab in Santa Fe, where he guided the growth of the center, expanded Dharma studies, and supported the development of spiritual practice within the community. In 2022, he was appointed Resident Lama of Kagyu Thegchen Ling in Honolulu while also assuming responsibility as regional supervisor for several Shangpa Kagyu centers across the United States. Throughout his years of teaching and service, he has remained devoted to helping others cultivate compassion, self-awareness, and ethical responsibility through the timeless wisdom of the Dharma.
As a member of the Ethics Advisory Board for The Mana College, Venerable Lama Mingma offers a perspective grounded in both ancient wisdom and lived experience. His guidance supports the College's commitment to developing leaders whose decisions are informed not only by knowledge and capability, but also by integrity, compassion, and responsibility. He reminds learners that meaningful leadership begins with the cultivation of one's own character, and that lasting success is achieved when wisdom, ethical action, and service to others advance together.
